San Nicolò
Former Church and Convent of Saint Nicholas. In via G. Elladio in front of piazza De Amicis and built by the Augustinians in the fourteenth century, this is one of the most interesting architectural complexes in the city, not to mention a rare example of Gothic architecture. Though once an active centre for religious and cultural life, today it is the seat of conventions, exhibitions and theatrical events. The church has a façade with two sloping roofs and today no longer has its rose window. Its beautiful ogival portal. has small pillars and is surmounted by a frescoed lunette. .
The church has only one nave and fragments of frescoes. The roof is trussed and the magnificent The Under the apse there is the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia. One can reach this church by going down the street by the same name to the right of the main church. |
